Student Working Rights: EU vs. Non-EU SplitThe Hungarian Labour Code regulates employment strictly based on your nationality:
A) EU / EEA Students (Full Market Access)Working Hours: Unlimited hours. You can legally work up to 40 hours per week (full-time) during the academic term.
Work Permit: No separate permit required. Valid with your official Registration Certificate.

Tax Benefit: If you are under 25, you enjoy a 0% Personal Income Tax (SZJA) rate up to the official annual state threshold.

B) Non-EU / Third-Country Students (Strict Hour Caps)Term-Time Limit: Under Act XC of 2023, you are legally restricted to a maximum of 30 hours per week during semesters. Exceeding this can lead to immediate visa revocation.
Holiday Limit: You can work full-time (40 hours/week) during official university breaks for a maximum of 90 days per calendar year.
Work Permit: No separate application is needed; your right to work is built directly into your Student Residence Permit (Tartózkodási Engedély).

3. Universal Employment Compliance (Mandatory)
Written Contract: Cash-in-hand or informal work is strictly illegal. You must sign a contract before your first shift.
Tax ID Required: Your employer must register you with the Tax Authority (NAV) using your 10-digit Hungarian Tax ID.
Recommended Channel: Always seek employment through official Student Cooperatives (Iskolaszövetkezet). They guarantee automated tax processing, ensure legal wage protection, and offer higher net payouts.
