Integration of International Students in the UK

Integrating International Students in the UK

Step 1: Secure Accommodation (May – July)
Objective: Lock in on-campus or PBSA accommodation before stocks run out.

- Early Booking: Apply immediately after receiving your offer of study.

- “No Visa, No Pay” Clause: Sign the pre-contract and pay the deposit. If your visa is rejected, your money is fully refunded.

Step 2: Legal Process (July – August)
Objective: Obtain the right to enter the country.

- Issuance of CAS: The University validates the documents and issues the electronic Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies code.
- Visa Application: Complete the form on [GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/student-visa) using the CAS code.
- Medical Fee (IHS): Payment of insurance for full access to the public health system ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/)).
- Biometrics: Appointment at the visa center in the home country.

Step 3: Pre-Departure Digital Kit (1 week before flight)
Purpose: Obtaining the British digital identity in time, to avoid blockages upon arrival.

- UK Home Number: The student orders a UK eSIM (e.g. Voxi, Lycamobile) or a free physical SIM from giffgaff delivered to the home country.

- Online Activation: The number (+44) is activated online. This will be used mandatory for SMS security (2FA) at banks and institutions.

Step 4: Arrival and Home Pick-up (Days 1 - 2)
Purpose: Physical activation of services at the destination.

- Accommodation Pick-up: Activation of the final contract by presenting the visa at check-in.

- Inventory Report: Taking a photo of the camera in the first 48 hours to protect the deposit.
- BRP Collection: Collect your Biometric Residence Permit from the post office or university.

Step 5: Financial Administration (Days 2 - 5)
Goal: Access to money and local legality through digital services.

- Academic Enrolment: Physical validation at the university to obtain your student ID.

- Bank Letter: Download the Student Status Letter from the faculty portal.

- Bank Account Opening: Using the already activated UK number and the letter from the faculty, the account is instantly opened at a digital bank (Monzo, Revolut UK).

- Council Tax Exemption: Send the student certificate to the city hall for a 0% reduction in local tax.

Step 6: Government Applications (From Week 2)
Goal: Access to health, work and discounts.

- GP Registration: Register online on NHS GP Finder. A UK number is required on the form to receive prescriptions and appointments via SMS.
- Employment Rights (NINo): Apply online at [GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number) for a National Insurance Number using your bank account and local phone number.
- Transport Discounts: Purchase a 16-25 Railcard or Student Oyster to save 30% on travel.
