1. Government Benefits and Financial Aid
For EU/EEA Students
- Grants and Pocket Money: European students can apply for maintenance and fee grants through the official government platform SUSI Ireland (Student Universal Support Ireland). Applications are submitted online before the start of the academic year.
- Rent Subsidy / Housing Support: In case of major financial difficulties related to accommodation, students can apply for confidential support through special funds administered internally by universities, such as Student Accommodation Assistance coordinated by the Department of Further and Higher Education.
- Emergency Assistance: For critical unforeseen situations, students have access to the Student Assistance Fund (SAF) directly from the social assistance office (Access Office) of the university where they are registered.

For Non-EU Students
- National Scheme Restrictions: Students from outside the European Union are not eligible for national SUSI scholarships or general social assistance from the Irish state.
- Internal University Aid: The only indirect government option is to apply to the Student Assistance Fund (SAF) managed by your own university, awarded strictly on the basis of vulnerability arising during your studies.
- Private Emergency Funds: You can apply for emergency financial assistance through your local student unions or partner university foundations.

2. Public Transport and Grants
For Both Categories (EU and Non-EU)
- National Grant: All students, regardless of nationality, must apply online for the Student Leap Card. This is the only official tool that reduces fares by up to 50%.
- Covered Transport System: The card offers integrated discounts on all major state and private networks: trains (Irish Rail), city buses (Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann) and trams (Luas).
Official Planning: To optimise routes and fares in real time, the national authority provides the Transport for Ireland (TFI) platform.

3. Social Integration, Organisations and ERASMUS
Student Organisations and Integration (EU and Non-EU)
- National Representation: All students are automatically represented by the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), the national organisation that fights for students' rights and organises integration events.
- Campus Life: Integration is done through the network of Clubs & Societies present in every Irish university. Registrations are made at the official stands during Freshers' Week.

ERASMUS
- Official Coordination in Ireland: All study mobilities and internships in the country are managed through Léargas, the Irish national agency for the Erasmus+ programme.

- Social Support on the Ground: Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Ireland is the main student association exclusively responsible for welcoming, integrating and organising social events for Erasmus students in Ireland.

- ESNcard (Commercial Discounts): Administered by ESN Ireland (Erasmus Student Network), this physical card gives the Erasmus community access to major logistics discounts with partner airlines and coach networks

- Eligibility: EU students apply through their home university. Non-EU students can also apply if they are regularly enrolled at a university in an Erasmus+ partner country.
